But when someone says, “I really connected with so-and-so,” or “I felt so-and so’s pain at that point,” hits different. Like, I know I did something right! Of course, getting positive feedback is a wonderful feeling because I’m so proud of all my “babies,” and the fact that someone would actually take the time out of their own life to read something *I* created still blows my mind to this day. This is going to sound so cliche, but when someone tells me that they connected with something specific from one of my books, it gives me such a rush. What do you find most rewarding about being a creative? I dabble in the fantasy and horror genres where I tell tales of dark elves, and zombies, and angels and demons, and witches (just not all in the same place!) and if there’s one thing you need to know about my work, it’s that I’m a sucker for the bad guy.

That fascination and curiosity toward the unknown was imprinted on me that night, and is relevant in my work as an author.

My love of all things macabre and weird began at the tender age of 3 when my mother took me to see the movie “Creepshow.” In her defense, she thought I was sleeping the whole time, but I most certainly was not. I live in that dark, goth-y world of music, fashion and film. For as long as I could remember, I’ve wanted to walk into a bookstore, point to a shelf and say, “I wrote that.” My imagination has always been both deep and wide and I knew early on that writing would satisfy my literary tentacles. I’ve been an English teacher since 2000 (middle school – yes, I’m a glutton for punishment). I’m originally from Long Island, NY I came to the Tampa Area in 2005. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. In the summer of 2010, I completed the first draft of my first novel – something I had dreamed of doing since I was young. Growing up, I wrote poetry, short stories, attempted many novels, but life always seemed to derail my dream of being published.Īfter I had my daughter in 2009, I felt like I had accomplished all the “life goals” I had set for myself.

I knew early on that I wanted to emulate that. My dad was a master storyteller, and he made up the best stories. Ever since I was a little kid and could pick up a crayon.
